So yesterday the temp didn't go higher than 9 degrees. My hands just couldn't get warm. We heat our house using a wood stove fireplace insert. Most "normal" winter days it's toasty in the house. But when the temp gets real low like it did Wed. night into Thursday and today, it has a hard time keeping things warm. So last night I caved and turned the furnace on. I got tired of cold fingers. Part of the problem, too, is that my windows are shit. There are air leaks around a lot of the frames. Yes, we should have put plastic over them like the bay and the slider but how do you block the seepage between the frame and the wall. And mind you, this house is only friggin' 13 years old. Built with modern day insulation, etc. And I had to block off the breezeway by hanging a blanket because I swear there's no insulation in there.
I'm sorry-I just had to rant today. I love New England. But I like to be warm too. Oil prices are just ridiculous (almost $600 for 200 gals) so wood is our solution. We are fortunate enough that we can somewhat afford to keep ourselves warm. What about all those people out there who cannot? Something to think about, I suppose, when choosing our presidential candidates.
I'm kind of in a knitting lull. I have a couple of projects that need to get finished but haven't the motivation to get on it. Maybe when it warms up a bit and my fingers aren't so cold..........
Not a comment on this post Meredith, but did you know that Yarn at Lacewings in Warwick is for sale? The owners are moving to Maryland.
